Dr T’s £million diet giveaway

I’ve had a great idea for my biggest competition of 2010!  It’s a win-win for me anyway.  Here’s how to enter….all you have to do is email me with details of a diet you’ve heard or read about that doesn’t work.  The winner will be drawn out of a hat and I’ll personally pay them £1million.  Sounds simple eh?....especially when you read on and discover just how many people around the world are on a diet right now….there must be plenty of diets to chose from. Well hold on, and lets think about it a second….Take a guess - how many people do you think are ‘on a diet’ this very second?  50 million?  600 million?  2 billion?  Keep reading to find the answer.

Before we find out the percentage of people on our wonderful planet classed as dieters let me explain why this competition will never really be launched.  The reason why I’m not worried about breaking my bank to satisfy the £million jackpot is because the question doesn’t have an answer.  Very sneaky of me – te he he!

When I overhear people say – ‘I’m going on a diet’ or ‘I’ve been on a diet for X years now – I think to myself…who hasn’t?  The fact is that every living being on this earth is on a diet….every form of life needs macro- and micro-nutrients to sustain itself.  We are all on a diet of one form or another.  Our bodies will deal with what it’s presented with it in a way that perfectly suits our emotions, thoughts, level of activity and environment.  With no exceptions!  Once you accept this plane and simple truth it’s easy to see that every diet works perfectly well all of the time.

So what would a fairer question be for such a mega prize giveaway (fairer to you – not to my bank balance)? How’s about….email me with an example of someone who’s diet doesn’t match their desire for how they’d like to look or perform.

Quite a different question.  But stop - before you click ‘send’  - please don’t email me – the answer’s too easy and my inbox might explode….and I don’t have £million to giveaway.  This is never going to be a competition.

The point I’m trying to get across here is that there’s no point blaming a diet for not working . To achieve any aim - whether it’s weight loss, improved energy levels, better performance in sport, more efficient digestion - you have to look at more than just what you eat.  It’s vital to consider your attitude towards the diet.   Your emotional relationship to your ideal aims and ambitions – and how you feel about the way you are now.  If you can master the art of matching all of these factors to choices about what you eat your body will be like putty in you fingers – quite literally you’ll be able to mould the figure you’ve always dreamed of.
